Job Posting Summary

The Director of Institutional Research and Planning is the subject matter expert for the planning and delivery of the Institutional Research initiatives that support the Vision of Data Analytics for Mercy College. The Director will identify departmental-wide inefficiencies in the method data is stored, processed, and utilized. Collaboration with various stakeholders to devise an appropriate methodology to identify and resolve problems is key. Develop partnerships with College community to implement the following initiatives: Predictive Modeling, Optimizing legacy systems, Data Analytics development, Survey Implementation, and Research projects.

Experience and/or Skills Required

A. Data Integrity
Develop enterprise-wide, integrated data governance program designed to optimize the college’s use of data and information assets. Focus on addressing both the risk and value sides of the college’s data and information assets.
Collaborate with stakeholders in the development of a standardized approach for reporting College metrics. Ensure that process is documented.
Streamline data files to facilitate ease of use.
Serve as Chair on workgroups related to institutional data and reporting.
B. Analytics and Reporting
Keep abreast of trends and best practices related to Institutional Research methodologies for reporting and devise strategies to integrate into our processes.
Collaborate with team to ensure timely reporting to maintain compliance with various accrediting bodies, government agencies and other external bodies (e.g., NYSED, IPEDS, Middle States, CDS, etc.)
Develop strategies to support college-wide initiative to implement data storage and analytic capacity.
Serve as Subject Matter Expert in various initiatives that involve the analysis of institutional data and drive efforts to expand the use of information in academic and administrative planning, program development and strategic decision-making.
Provide analytical expertise to School leaders to assist in developing new approaches to pedagogic management.
Develop various dashboards and visualizations to monitor key performance indicators for various departments. Determine data needs of departments and programs through open communication and collaboration.
Provide support to the Executive Director in the coordination with executive offices to provide periodic reports to the Board of Trustees and its committees.
Collaborate with members of the Institutional Research department to produce an annual college fact book and supplemental ad hoc reports.
C. Project Planning and Research
Identify methods to increase survey response rates. Work with team to develop tactics.
Develop project plan to implement predictive model(s). Create data acquisition process, and identify variables used to test model.
Assist with the implementation of college-wide initiatives that encompass the use and storage of institutional and student data.
Develop proposal for research projects related to the College’s strategic objectives and student learning outcomes. Collaborate with College stakeholders to create hypothesis and design methodology for implementation.
Assist in the analysis of NSSE survey results and provide guidance on how to utilize the data
Member of various College Committees as discussed with Executive Director

Education Required or Min Education Required

Graduate degree from an accredited college or university, ideally focused on statistics, information science, and/or higher education administration.

Licenses/Certifications Required
Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of five years of experience relating to information management, applied research, and statistical analysis, preferably in a higher education setting.
Close attention to detail, accuracy and precision of data and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects on deadline.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage concurrent projects of various complexity with tight timelines.
Strong spreadsheet skills including advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and/or SPSS, and relational databases such as MS Access and/or SQL
Familiarity with Statistical Analysis packages (R, SAS, SPSS, or Rapid Insight)
Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, written and oral communication, problem-solving, organizational, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated evidence of detail-orientation, customer service orientation, ability to work independently, and great levels of responsibility required.
